Like other manufacturers across the country, Riverdale Mills Corp. was dealt a blow by the COVID-19 pandemic. But if “Riverdale,” or “RMC,” is known for anything besides the innovation that put the Northbridge-based company on the map in the first place, it is resiliency.

NORTHBRIDGE — Riverdale Mills, a manufacturer of wire mesh products, has been surviving the pandemic amid a 30% drop in its workforce and a global shortage of raw materials, but CEO James Knott Jr. said he isn’t worried.

Recovered from the Pandemic, Riverdale Mills is Looking to Hire

Riverdale Mills Corp., tucked away on the Blackstone River in the Riverdale section of Northbridge, manufactures more than 3,500 sizes of welded wire mesh for marine, aquaculture, security, farming and construction industries. The company boasts nearly 400,000 square feet in a renovated facility it says previously forged bayonets for the Union Army in the Civil War. CEO Jim Knott spoke with WBJ about the company’s relationship to shellfishing, the search for skilled workers and what brought Riverdale Mills to Northbridge.
