Construction

Geomesh™ gabion systems are engineered for infrastructure and built for durability.

Gabion systems have been used worldwide for decades because they combine structural stability with permeability and flexibility. Unlike rigid concrete structures, gabions allow water to pass through, reducing hydrostatic pressure while accommodating settlement and ground movement.

That combination makes gabions especially effective for retaining walls, erosion control, scour protection, shoreline stabilization, and other applications where long-term performance in changing environmental conditions matters most.

Engineers, contractors, municipalities, DOTs, and infrastructure owners rely on Geomesh for flexible, permeable systems that outperform rigid concrete alternatives across a wide range of civil engineering environments.

Backed by Riverdale’s U.S. manufacturing capabilities, Geomesh delivers dependable supply, responsive engineering support, and long-term performance across transportation, water management, coastal, municipal, and commercial infrastructure projects.

Why Engineers Specify Geomesh™

Riverdale controls every stage of production — wire drawing, welding, galvanizing, and PVC coating — at its vertically integrated Massachusetts facility. That means complete manufacturing traceability, rigorous quality control, dependable supply, and shorter lead times.

Geomesh is manufactured to ASTM A974 requirements for welded wire fabric gabions and gabion mattresses, along with applicable ASTM A641, ASTM A856/A856M, and ASTM A90 standards, giving engineers and specifiers a documented basis for material quality, galvanizing, fabrication, and performance.

Riverdale’s Galvanized After Welding (GAW) process adds another layer of confidence: complete zinc coverage at every weld intersection, which helps maximize service life and lower lifecycle costs in demanding environments. (See Geomesh Product page for full detail on GAW.)

Available in galvanized steel and marine-grade PVC-coated finishes, Geomesh’s welded wire construction provides straighter wall faces, cleaner aesthetics, and easier stone placement than traditional woven systems.

Where Geomesh Is Used

  • Retaining Walls & Civil Engineering Structures

Flexible, permeable earth retention for slope stabilization, erosion control, and infrastructure applications—ideal for highways, railways, utility corridors, municipal projects, and commercial developments.

  • Bridge Abutments, Wing Walls & Scour Protection

Stabilizes bridges, culverts, embankments, and abutment slopes while providing long-term erosion and scour protection. Gabion walls, Reno mattresses, aprons, and toe walls perform reliably in high-flow environments.

  • Slope Stabilization & Erosion Control

Built for embankments, riverbanks, drainage channels, shorelines, dams, and grading projects—controlling erosion, reducing scour, and supporting vegetation growth.

  • Marine & Shoreline Protection

Marine-grade PVC-coated Geomesh resists saltwater corrosion, UV exposure, and harsh weather, making it ideal for seawalls, revetments, marinas, and other coastal infrastructure.

  • Architectural & Landscape Applications

Structural durability meets clean aesthetics for decorative retaining walls, facades, seating areas, noise barriers, security features, and landscape architecture projects.
