Full Time – 1st Shift (6:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.)
As the Lead Shear Operator, you will perform various standard operations to cut panels from rolls of coated wire mesh, galvanized mesh & stainless-steel mesh. Trim panels after cutting to produce a finished panel with smooth edges, which meets customer quality and size specifications. Train and assign associates ensuring safety, quality, delivery, and good housekeeping.
Lead Shear Operator Job Responsibilities:
- Work from direction of Supervisor
- Follow company policy, procedures, specification sheets, job orders, written and verbal instructions.
- Train new associates, assist, direct, and instruct operators.
- Maintain and record production activity.
- Work from job order to determine proper amount of panel trimming necessary to meet customer requirements.
- Perform routine operations to operate shearing machine to produce wire mesh panels to meet customer orders.
- Pull correct amount of wire under blade and onto table in accordance with size of panels being cut. Set control panels to correct length. Activate foot pedal to cut panel.
- Check regularly to assure panels meet customer size specifications, and visually inspect wire for quality problems.
- Correct cause of improper processing.
- Verify that all products are properly tagged.
- Ensure that all employees working within are wearing appropriate safety equipment.
- Detect and report improper operation of faulty equipment and unusual conditions to the supervisor.
- Report serious problems to the maintenance department or supervisor.
- Lift each panel; align it with cutters on trimming table and position properly for trimming.
- Use hoist to assist in positioning heavy rolls of wire mesh.
- Use tape measures and other measuring devices to measure for proper panel cutting and finished panels.
- Use a variety of hand tools in adjusting equipment for different types of wire mesh.
- Move material as necessary in the performance of duties or as directed.
- Maintain necessary records.
- Follow prescribed safety rules and regulations along with maintaining quality standards.
- Maintain work area and equipment in a clean, safe, and orderly condition.
- Other duties as assigned by Supervisor including being cross trained to operate all the machines.
Lead Shear Operator Requirements:
- Must have experience as a team leader or supervisor.
- Fluent in English and a good ability to communicate with others.
- Ability to teach and train others. To give direction to ensure job requirements are met.
- Follow procedures and company policies including maintaining a safe work environment.
- Have a mechanical aptitude including be able to read job specifications, use a measuring tape and a variety of thickness gauges.
- Must be able to use a variety of hand and power tools.
- Able to enter production into SAP.
- Organized and ensuring good housekeeping.
Physical Demands:
- On your feet most of the shift.
- Ability to position rolls of wire on/off pallets to load into the machine. (500 lbs.+ with the aid of an overhead crane).
- Ability to strap, stack, palletize and band panels of wire mesh onto pallet.
- Ability to climb onto machine and be able to be able to make necessary machine adjustments.
